Selfsorg in Stilbaai

Self-catering in Stilbaai

All three houses at Stonehouse Lodge, 10 minutes from Stilbaai, are self-catering and let as a whole, with a braai or firepit outside. Stilbaai’s supermarkets and restaurants are a short drive away, and the farm sells its own olive oil.

Kitchens and braais

White House Cottage has a kitchen with a double-door fridge, a gas stove and an oven, a window over the Goukou River and a stable door straight out to the braai area. There is an indoor braai in the stone fireplace beside the dining table for six, so a braai works in any weather.

Stonehouse Lodge has its own kitchen under a wooden ceiling, a bar for the end of the day and an undercover braai area, with a long veranda for eating outside. Grysbok Cottage has a firepit for evenings outside.

Shopping and eating out

Stilbaai has supermarkets for the big shop, a deli, seafood restaurants, a steakhouse and cafés on both sides of the river, about 10 minutes from the farm. Riversdale, half an hour north, is the nearest bigger town.

On the farm, children collect eggs from the hens, and Stonehouse extra virgin olive oil, pressed on the farm from our own olives, is sold by the litre. Firewood for braais comes from the farm.

Why self-catering on a farm

You keep your own hours: a late breakfast on the veranda, lunch on the jetty, a slow braai while the sun goes down over the river. Each house is let as a whole, so nobody else shares your kitchen.
