About the house

Staying at Grysbok

What is Grysbok Cottage like?

Grysbok is a three-bedroom farm cottage on the slope above the dam, with the hills behind and the buck camp and farm animals close by. It is named after the small grysbok antelope that live in the bush on the farm.

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and games for the family inside and out.

Days and nights

Mornings start with coffee on the veranda and the sound of the farm waking up. Days go on the walking trails, at the dam with a fishing rod, or meeting the animals: the buck camp with springbok, bontebok and gemsbok is right below the cottage, with the cattle, sheep, chickens, horses and peacocks close by. Ask Alison about horse riding for experienced riders and a skippered river cruise with Gavin or Alison (paid, bring your own drinks).

Nights go at the firepit, stargazing.

Who it suits

Couples, families and small groups who want Stilbaai accommodation on a working farm, with the animals on the doorstep. Book it together with Stonehouse Lodge or White House Cottage for a bigger gathering.

Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out by 10:00; ask Alison if your travel plans need different times. A 50% non-refundable deposit secures your dates and the balance is due on arrival.

No smoking indoors (the houses are thatched), fires only in the braai areas and fireplaces, quiet after 22:00 and pets in the fenced area at your house. The full house rules are on the house rules page.

This is a working farm with a river, a dam and livestock. Children need an adult with them near the water, at the dam and around the animals. The farm’s stretch of the Goukou lies in the restricted zone of the Stilbaai Marine Protected Area: no fishing and no jet-skis. Bass in the farm dam are catch-and-release.
